Ibrahim*, 17, fled Rwanda with his family in 2015 and is now a student leader in Dadaab, where he is experiencing the impact of more supportive, learner-centred teaching through Save the Children’s LEGO Foundation-supported TeachWell Voices project. The initiative is strengthening refugee teachers’ professional skills, leadership and recognition, resulting in more engaging classrooms, stronger teacher-learner relationships and improved school leadership, while Communities of Practice are giving refugee teachers a collective voice to advocate for greater professional recognition.

After years of displacement, hunger and poverty forced Esther’s children, Aldrine and Hafold, out of school. With support from Save the Children, the siblings have returned to learning, received psychosocial support and gained renewed confidence, while cash assistance helped their family rebuild a safer home. Their journey shows how education and humanitarian support can help children move beyond survival and reclaim hope for the future.

Alice*, a mother of three from Turkana County, struggled to keep her children alive as prolonged drought, food insecurity, and poverty pushed her family to the brink. When her four-year-old daughter Charity* developed severe acute malnutrition and began losing her eyesight, Save the Children reached their community through the UK Aid Match-funded ACCEPT project. After receiving life-saving treatment and Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), Charity recovered her strength and sight, giving Alice renewed hope. Today, despite walking three hours to access outreach services and facing ongoing hardship, Alice continues to seek care for her children, determined to give them a healthier future.

In remote Turkana, where access to healthcare is often out of reach, Save the Children's integrated outreach clinics are bringing life-saving health, nutrition and WASH services directly to families. Veronica's story and her son Namonia's recovery from severe acute malnutrition show how timely care is giving children a healthier future while reaching thousands of vulnerable people across the county.

After devastating drought wiped out livestock and pushed families into severe hunger and malnutrition in Garissa, communities are now rebuilding their lives through climate-smart farming supported by Save the Children. Families like Ardo’s are growing nutritious vegetables for the first time, improving children’s health, strengthening food security, and generating income through surplus produce and savings groups. The integrated support combining nutrition treatment, farming training, and financial empowerment is helping communities transition from vulnerability to resilience.

In Northern Kenya, prolonged drought has left families facing severe food insecurity after nearly a year without rain, as livestock die or migrate and livelihoods collapse. Mothers and children have been particularly affected, with rising cases of malnutrition and limited access to food and health services. Through Save the Children’s integrated outreach services and cash assistance, vulnerable households were identified and supported, helping stabilize health and restore hope despite the ongoing drought.

In Wajir County, children at Wajir Full Primary School are turning climate challenges into action through Save the Children’s Watoto na Mazingira programme. By planting trees and managing gardens, they are transforming their school into a greener, more resilient space. With support such as a solar-powered water system, these efforts are improving learning conditions while empowering children to become active agents of climate solutions in their communities.

Mothers in northern Kenya are struggling to feed their children due to drought, crocodile attacks curtailing fishing, locusts decimating crops, and aid cuts reducing nutrition services, Save the Children said.

In Garissa County, unsafe water exposed children to deadly diseases—until Save the Children, supported by P&G, provided clean water solutions, health screenings, and hygiene education. Families now use water purifiers, leading to healthier children, empowered mothers, and stronger, more resilient communities.
