Humanitarian Work

Save the Children Kenya and Madagascar Country Office provides lifesaving interventions to children affected by emergencies. Hunger crises, floods, disease outbreaks, and displacement are among the most common humanitarian challenges in Kenya. During such crises, livelihoods are often disrupted or destroyed, limiting access to adequate and nutritious food and increasing the risk of malnutrition and other health complications. Access to education is also affected, while children face heightened protection risks, including child labour, neglect, and teenage pregnancy.

What We Do

During emergencies, Save the Children works closely with local governments and partners to deliver lifesaving assistance to affected children and families. We support access to food through cash assistance programmes that enable families to meet their essential food and non-food needs. We also improve access to safe water through the rehabilitation and solarization of boreholes.

In collaboration with county governments, Save the Children supports the screening and treatment of children suffering from malnutrition, particularly in hard-to-reach areas. In addition, we maintain an operational presence in the Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps, where we work with UNHCR to provide accelerated learning programmes for out-of-school children and implement child protection interventions, including mental health and psychosocial support services for refugee children. In 2025 Save the Children Kenya and Madagascar provided lifesaving interventions to 176,876 people.
