Save the Children has convened a two-day Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience (EPRR) Workshop aimed at strengthening the organization's readiness to anticipate, prepare for and respond to emergencies that affect children and vulnerable communities.
The workshop brings together Save the Children staff, government institutions, humanitarian actors and key partners to review risks, identify preparedness priorities and develop a practical emergency preparedness and response plan that will guide interventions over the next twelve months.
Opening the workshop, Save the Children Country Director Patrick Analo underscored the importance of the exercise in positioning the organization to better prevent, mitigate and respond to disasters before they escalate into humanitarian crises.
He noted that emergencies often worsen existing challenges facing children and, in many cases, create new threats to their wellbeing, education, protection and survival. Mr. Analo called on participants to contribute their best ideas and expertise toward the development of a robust preparedness and response framework that will help Save the Children and its partners act quickly and effectively when emergencies arise.
The workshop is designed to move participants from understanding risk to developing concrete response actions. The first day focuses on reviewing the emergency preparedness context, examining humanitarian coordination structures, mapping key partners, and identifying and prioritizing the country's most significant risks.
Discussions also incorporate the perspectives of children and communities to ensure that preparedness measures are grounded in the realities faced by those most vulnerable.
On the second day, participants developed emergency scenarios, establish early warning indicators and response triggers, identify anticipatory actions, and agree on humanitarian response measures, roles and coordination mechanisms. The workshop ended with the validation of key actions and recommendations that will form the basis of Save the Children's Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience Plan for the coming year.
