Save the Children staff spoke to children in Nuwakot district who said they are fearful and anxious after witnessing wide-ranging horrors including school buses full of friends washed away, their homes submerged and everything they hold dear carried away by the waters. 

Nine school children have been reunited with their families after being stranded at school for two days by the devastating flash floods in Northern Nepal, as rescue efforts continue to reach other students, Save the Children said.

Rescuers are racing to find survivors in the flash flood-devastated areas of Northern Nepal, as Save the Children delivers emergency aid to families, with many places still only accessible by helicopter. 

A Save the Children assessment in the immediate aftermath of the protests revealed grave violations of children’s rights by state security forces, including deaths, injuries, arbitrary arrests and widespread trauma among children and young people. The assessment also exposed critical weaknesses in the country’s child protection systems during political unrest. 

Floods and landslides caused by unprecedented rainfall in parts of Nepal have killed at least 14 children and closed schools, said Save the Children, as the changing climate further impacts children’s lives in Asia.
